Grantown man caught drink driving 20 years on after conviction for same offence

A 58 year old Grantown man was told by a Sheriff he should have known better to have been drinking and driving again 20 years after he was caught for the same offence.

Rodney Brannigan of Dulicht Court, admitted being almost three times the legal limit when police saw him in his white Toyota pulled into the High Street car park in the town on September 5, earlier this year.

Police suspicions that he had alcohol in his system were confirmed when they approached him and smelt it off his breath, fiscal depute Adele Gray told Inverness Sheriff Court.

A subsequent blood test showed he had 60mcgs of alcohol when the limit is 22mcgs.

Fining him £840 and banning him from driving for two years, Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald told Brannigan: "It may have been a long time ago but you know you should not have done it.

“You should have known better."
