Grantown Grammar School latest . . .
The latest news from Grantown Grammar as provided by the school:
In fine voice: Several of our school musicians performed in three concerts at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort as part of the Highland Young Musicians programme.
A combination of bands and groups played and the concerts culminated in the Scottish premiere of a WWF piece "One Sun One World" to mark the wildlife charity’s 50th anniversary.
The performance featured one of our own singers, Ella McIntosh-Farrelly (S5) who soloed as a panda. Congratulations to everyone who was involved – you really did the school proud.
Getting creative: Advanced Higher English pupils have taken part in the Highland Schools Creative Writing Course at Moniack.
The students thoroughly enjoyed this residential course which was designed to encourage creative writing.
Led by tutors John Glenday and Karen Campbell, participants had time to work on their own, in groups and individually with the experts before sharing some of their best work with the group. The pieces the pupils produced will be used as part of their Advanced Higher folio.
Enterprising second years: The 2RK Making Connections class organised and ran seven highly professional and successful European Cafes on Wednesday (November 16). They raised £75 which they will be donating to charity. Well done all!
S6 hamper appeal: Thank you to all who have contributed to our Christmas hamper appeal. We have been staggered by the generosity of all. The seniors will be busy putting hampers together for distribution in mid December. If you haven’t managed to donate something there is still time!
On display: The Grantown Museum will be hosting an exhibition of work by pupils from Grantown Grammar school this weekend. The museum will be open between 10am and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. This is an excellent opportunity to view the works of pupils and possibly pick up a good value Christmas present.
Admittance is free and any profits made from the sale of artworks will be shared between the pupils and the school.
A high note: A music concert will take place tomorrow (Thursday) at 7.30pm in the main hall. Tickets are priced £4 for adults and £3 for concessions and available from the office or The Bookmark. It’s a chance to watch and listen to some of the best musicians in the strath. Always a great night.
In the community: A number of senior pupils will be performing in Nethy to entertain the older folks with their singing and instrumental talents.
Play that funky music: On Tuesday December 21, 12 pupils will have the chance to take part in a special dub-step workshop thanks to the Feis Spe.
