The Flower Box in Grantown-on-Spey in running for Florist of the Year (North) title in Scottish Independent Retail Awards
A FLORISTS’ stunning run of success in a major competition has continued after it made the final shortlist again – for the fifth year in a row.
The Flower Box in Grantown is in the running for the title of Florist of the Year for the north of Scotland in this year’s Scottish Independent Retail Awards.
If the shop wins it will retain the title it won last year. Indeed, it has an enviable track record in the competition, winning florist of the year for the whole of Scotland in 2015, and bagging the title for best in the north in 2016 and again last year.
A delighted Maria Norman, who took over the shop seven years ago, said the continued success was a real team effort.
“I love it, it’s brilliant news,” she said. “We try to help everybody and believe in looking after the locals.
“We are really, really proud and it’s always a team effort in here.”
She will find out if the shop won after an awards ceremony in Glasgow on Tuesday.
“Undoubtedly, independent retailers are the very backbone of the Scottish economy as they make huge contributions to the country’s revenue by creating employment opportunities and enhancing the communities they operate within,” said a spokesperson for the Scottish Independent Retail Awards.
“The competition is really tough this year, but each finalist has their own success story to tell. We can’t wait to welcome our guests and celebrate the 2019 winners with them.
“We would like to wish all the finalists the best of luck.”
Competing with The Flower Box for this year’s title are Fiona’s Flower Studio and The Flower Company (both Inverness), Victoriana Florist & Gifts in Alness, Dingwall’s Daisy Rue Flowers, The Flower Shop London House in Tain and Aberdeen Flowers in the granite city.
