Grantown Does Christmas weekend gets festive season off to flying start
Organisers have hailed Grantown Does Christmas as a great success for the town.
They said the town got into the festive spirit and there was a steady flow of people enjoying all that was on offer.
The Square and The High Street looked very festive as retailers have dressed their windows beautifully and the Christmas tree and lights help to bring the town alive.
The event was organised in support of local retailers and to give the local community a lift at the end of what has been a very difficult year for everyone but it was the people who came out to take part who made it work.
Amongst the highlights were Santa saying hello from the safety of one of the town's fire engine, Grantown Grammar School Brass Band performing for shoppers, Lyall Kinnaird playing the bagpipes up and down the High Street and activities including a Christmas tree festival, an art and crafts fair and treasure hunt.
Karen Martin, chair of The Grantown Business Association and event organiser was delighted with the turnout and was very hopeful that most retailers had a successful weekend.
She said: “It was fantastic to see so many people turn out. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the 12 or so local community groups who took part all said it was very worthwhile.
"It was a real community affair and thanks to everyone involved – particularly the main sponsor, The Cairn Distillery for their generous donation which helped fund promotion of the event and prizes.
"We are delighted they supported the only event that we have been able to hold in 2020 which allowed us to showcase the magic of Grantown during the festive season.
"We very much look forward to welcoming The Cairn Distillery to our community in the future.”
Fellow organiser Tom Clark said: "It really was a fantastic weekend for Grantown Does Christmas.
"The town had a real buzz about it with a steady flow of people enjoying all that was on offer; shops and stalls, brass band, bagpipes, Santa and many other attractions and activities."
