Grantown charity effort waits as fires rage
A fund-raising effort for the Firefighters Charity has had to be postponed – because of the massive wildfires at Knockando in Moray.
The Grantown crew had planned a big carwash effort from 11am today (Saturday, April 27) to boost funds for the campaign which helps everyday heroes to recover their lives from the mental, physical and social burdens which can sometimes come from being a past or present member of the UK's dedicated fire services community.
But as local organiser Alison Jarvis explained yesterday: "Unfortunately we have had to cancel and will have to reschedule our event.
"The ongoing wildfire at Moray has meant that the Grantown firefighters have been working round the clock since Monday with no signs of let up so our resources are depleted until that is under control."
Firefighters from across the strath have joined others from around the country assisting gamekeepers and landworkers in the effort to bring the moorland blaze under control.
It was understood to have been dealt with by Thursday morning, but about six appliances have returned to the area around Knockando.
In fact the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service tackled a range of wildfires across the country over the week, including the blaze near Paul's Hill wind farm at Knockando which broke out on Monday.
