Fire-fighters' lift for Nethy polytunnel campaign
Santa’s been – and they’re still celebrating in Nethy Bridge!
The primary school is hoping to raise enough funds to purchase a polytunnel for its garden.
And they tell the Strathy they have just received a “fantastic” donation from the great man, courtesy of the Grantown Fire Station crew who offered him a lift around local communities just before Christmas.
“The donations were collected on their festive rounds, where they had the fire engine decorated, played festive music, and handed out sweets to local children,” said mum Carley Timms. “They visited a lot of the surrounding villages.”
The polytunnel will compliment the other playground upgrades that are currently taking place.
“The children are already keen gardeners,” said Carley. “Last year they won a local schools competition for their floral displays.
“They also grow a lot of vegetables to sell at school assemblies and events, then they choose a charity to give the money to. The children thoroughly enjoy gardening, so the polytunnel will help them increase their yields.
“Now we are keen to hear from anyone who has a good second-hand polytunnel frame for sale!”
Lyn Munro from Nethybridge(a grandparent of two pupils at the school) volunteers to go in and assist with the planting sessions.
The plan is to run the gardening club over several lunchtime breaks through the week where Lyn or Carley will be on-site to guide the children.
"Our next fundraising event is a quiz night in the Nethybridge community hall on Friday March 13," said Carley. "It will start at 7pm, for teams up to six people, at £5 per person.
"The prize is a weekend lunch for the team at Galaxy World Buffet. There are some fantastic raffle prizes too!"
