A £12,000 investment has been made at Grantown Bowling Club making the facilities more accessible for everyone.

Work has renewed the banking around the bowling green, installed a ramp to provide easy access onto the green and improved the pathways to make it easier for visitors to get to and from the clubhouse.

The changes - funded by money from the Berryburn Windfarm community fund - will be there for all to see tomorrow.

With the new outdoors season starting, a ‘Try Bowls’ event is taking place at the club tomorrow (Saturday) at 2pm.

Everyone is invited to come and give bowls a try - just bring along flat shoes.

This year Grantown Bowling Club has been selected as one of the Co-op Community Fund projects and Co-op members can help raise funds for the project by choosing Grantown Bowling Club as their cause.

A club spokeswoman said: “Thanks to the Co-op Community Fund we have been able to purchase special equipment to involve younger players in a fun and engaging way.

“The project will introduce the basics of bowling, make it easier for groups of young bowlers to try bowls, and support the development of young talent while promoting social interaction with all members of our community.”

Club president Davie Rose said: “Bowling is a great way people of all ages can get together and exercise whilst having fun.

“The bowling club is a place for families to spend time playing a sport, they can all enjoy, and we look forward to welcoming folk to our Try Bowls event tomorrow.”

The Grantown Bowling Club was established in 1908.

Open from May through to September, everyone is welcome to come and join us on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at 2pm or Wednesday evening at 7pm – all equipment is provided, and club members are happy to explain the game and offer informal coaching.

Visitors are asked to make a £5 donation towards the upkeep of the bowling green and clubhouse and anyone under the age of 18 can play for free.
