Good school report for Carrbridge Primary School and nursery from education inspectors
Carrbridge Primary School and Nursery Class has been favourably reviewed by an Education Scotland inspection - but there is room for improvement, staff have been told.
The inspection team visited in February and talked to parents/carers and children, working closely with the headteacher and staff.
HM Inspector Denise Penman has told the school the these strengths were found: “The headteacher and staff, across the school and nursery, work very well together to create positive, respectful and trusting relationships with children, parents and the community.
“There is a welcoming, caring and inclusive ethos across the school as a result. All staff and children are polite and kind to one another. Children feel safe, valued and nurtured.
“Children are proud of their school and nursery, they engage well in their learning and try to do their best. Staff work effectively with community partners to offer children a wide range of opportunities to achieve. This is enhancing their sense of belonging to the community and developing well their skills for learning, life and work.”
At the same time, areas for improvement were identified.
”All staff must review and improve their approaches to learning, teaching and assessment. They should ensure all children experience high-quality, well-planned learning and teaching that is matched appropriately to their learning needs.
“The headteacher should support staff to look outwards to further develop staffs’ understanding of what high quality learning and teaching looks like.”
The inspector adds: “Practitioners in the nursery should use assessment information more effectively to enable all children to make the progress they are capable of in learning.
“All staff in the school and nursery should improve systems used to track and monitor children’s progress and attainment.
“They should ensure children attain and achieve as much as possible.”
The evaluations of the primary school were:
Learning, teaching and assessment - weak
Raising attainment and achievement - satisfactory.
For the nursery both findings were ‘satisfactory’.

The school needed additional support and more time to make necessary improvements, the inspector said.
“We will liaise with The Highland Council regarding the school’s capacity to improve and will return to carry out a further inspection of the school within one year.”
