A new house near St Vincent’s Hospital in Kingussie has been given the conditional go-ahead.

Aviemore-based Allan Munro Construction Ltd had applied to build the one and three-quarter storey house on plot three which is some 150 metres south of the hospital.

The park’s senior planning officer Mary Grier had recommended conditional approval to the national park’s planning committee on Friday.

But the building’s finish was seen as "very complicated" by committee member Kate Howie who thought it would not look out of place in the TV soap "Dallas".

Ms Grier said she was not too sure if the drawings which had been supplied were "an entirely accurate representation", with its stone and timber and glazed sections. Committee member Bill Lobban commented: "This is not a nice building to have in this location – the design is absolutely appalling!"

More than once, the senior planning officer pointed out "condition six" of her recommendation for approval.

It states that further written approval will be required from the park authority for "external windows and doors; external stonework; render for the walls; external timber cladding, including details of any stain; and roofing material".
