Glicey does it as plans for skating rink in Badenoch are lodged

Plans have come forward for a new year-round skating rink for Badenoch.

Loch Insh Sailing School trialled the ‘alternative’ surface manufactured by Glice last year and it proved hugely popular with young and old, but the problem has been just where to site the attraction.

Initially a modest walled rink was established in half of the top car park at the attraction by Kincraig.

However, that restricted the numbers of cars which could pull in for the restaurant and the beach.

The rink was latterly moved down to the beach itself and presented a stunning site by the water, especially when its evening illuminations were set up.

But as the company told the Strathy at the time, nobody had quite budgeted for the astonishing changes in water level during heavy rain or quick thaws.

The rink was ultimately washed away by the flooding which overtook the shoreline and the beach towards the end of last year.

Now the company has lodged plans to set up the facility on the lower car park, in an area currently used for storage and for archery instruction.
