Glenmore cafe owner over the moon after completing challenge for 30th birthday
A well-known Glenmore café owner has completed his 100 miles challenge in cheeky fashion in time for turning 30.
Scott Fleming has ticked off the miles in all manner of ways in the past two weeks to raise funds for the charity UK Mental Health – and raising many smiles along the way with his humorous posts on social media.
Scott runs The Pine Marten Bar + Scran with partner Katie Jachacy, and the couple have built up a large and loyal customer base both at their business by Loch Morlich and with their social media channels.
He celebrated reaching the landmark a short time ago on social media in typical wacky style: bare chested, sporting a kilt (well, mainly) and with a nip of winter warmer to help him on his way on his cross country skis.
Scott told followers of the Pine Marten Bar + Scran on Facebook: "Yasssss, 100 miles done. And aye, I am a true Scotsman. Kilt Skis Buckie and Buns... Thanks again for all of your amazing support through my fundraising page for Mental Health UK and sharing all the silly bits and bobs like this."
Plenty of people have congratulated him on his fundraising efforts online in the short time since he crossed the finish line.
Scott had explained the inspiration for his fundraising earlier this week: “I’ve seen loads of folk doing fundraisers for birthdays, and think it’s awesome, so I thought I’d set one up ahead of my 30th next Thursday.
"I have chosen Mental Health UK, as I’m sure there is a massive demand at the moment with the current situation. I personally have had to deal with some mental health problems.
“As part of the fundraiser I have been cycling, walking, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and hiking since January 11, to do 100 miles or more by next Tuesday.
“I know that’s not a lot for a lot of people, but I’m very unfit! The reason I’m trying to achieve it before January 26 is to give my legs and body time to recover, so when I turn 30 I can still walk and perhaps even have a dance!”
So far more than £1650 has been donated, and Scott has said he is astonished by the response.
He said: “It just goes to show how much of an issue this really is. Mental health issues are an illness like anything else. I’ve had a fair few people messaging me just to talk about it which is great.”
Scott is known to don a red squirrel outfit to ensure kids see one on their Glenmore visits and also wore it for some of the miles he covered on his bike.
The couple and their chef also cooked up and delivered Christmas dinners for those in need in the local area.
