Fresh snow has greeted skiers and snowboarders taking to the slopes for the first day of 2023.

Cairngorm Mountain has reported eight centimetres of overnight fresh snow at the resort's learners area.

A resort spokesperson said earlier today: "Heavy snow was falling this morning, with eight centimetres of fresh level snowfall. Snow starting to become lighter now."

The forecast was for a temperature of -1C at the Base Station with a wind speed of 10mph and poor visibility in at times.

The two conveyors and beginners area at the base of the mountain opened at 9.45am.

Snowsports tickets are sold out for today.

The spokesperson said: "The longer range forecast looks to be staying cold and wintry. We are continuously checking other areas of the mountain and will report when things improve further up the hill."
