Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd will not be charging visitors to park at its site this summer.

The resort is waiving the £2 per car charge that operates at this time of year.

Coire Cas’ main car park is now back in use as part of the partial reopening of the resort which got under way on Wednesday.

Interim chief executive Susan Smith said although there are no charges they are encouraging donations from those visiting the resort or parking up to venture into the surrounding peaks.

The retail area, café, mountain garden and toilets have reopened to the public with social distancing guidelines in place.

Cairngorm Mountain introduced the parking charges last summer running from April to October having previously collected donations. The rate is in line with Forestry and Land Scotland charges at Glenmore.

Fees are not applied in winter.

The resort gained planning permission recently for two solar powered automatic car park barriers from the Cairngorms National Park Authority.

The additions will not cause traffic tailbacks at peak times at Cairngorm Mountain, the resort’s planning representatives stressed.

Objectors had expressed fears that it could lead to traffic jams at busy periods such as February half-term breaks.
