Emergency services have scrambled to the scene after an overturned vehicle closed the A9 in both directions between Slochd and Carrbridge.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it had despatched five appliances to the scene after receiving a call at 2.21pm.

Engines from Aviemore, Grantown-on-Spey, Kingussie and two from Inverness were involved in the callout.

It said two vehicles were involved in a collision.

Traffic Scotland, meanwhile, in a post at 2.34pm, advised motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes and said a vehicle had overturned on the carriageway.

It said: “[The] road [is] closed in both directions due to an overturned vehicle. Road users are advised to use alternative routes at this time. Further updates as we get them.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “The A9 is closed at Carrbridge due to a crash which was reported at 2.20pm on Wednesday, July 16. Emergency services are in attendance. Please avoid the area, if possible.”

There was no immediate word on whether there were any injuries.
