Wildfire at Dava Moor keeps Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews working through the night with the A940 Forres road closed from Tomdow to Dava
Firefighters have been battling through the night to extinguish a wildfire that last night closed the A940 Forres to Dava road.
Four fire appliances were at the scene after the outbreak was reported to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at 5.29 pm on Wednesday, with police attending after 7pm.
The road between Dava and Tomdow at Dava Moor was closed for several hours, but a Police Scotland spokesman said this morning: “The A940 between Dava and Tomdow has reopened following a wildfire in the area reported to police around 7pm on Wednesday, 9 July.
“Road users are thanked for their patience.”
Two pumps from Grantown-on-Spey, one from Forres and another from Nairn were initially sent, but the fire service presence has been reduced to just one appliance.
Road users have been asked to avoid the area and not to ignore road closures.
An extreme wildfire warning will be in place across Scotland from Friday until Monday, with a ‘very high risk’ warning across Moray and the Highlands.
It follows wildfires that spread across an expanse of the moorland and other areas for four days last month.
It is thought the latest blaze could be a reignition of peat still smouldering below ground from the intense heat of the previous fires.
