Highland and Moray school ‘firearms’ threat sparks 19-year-old’s arrest; Police Scotland said they had been made aware of a ‘malicious email’ sent to ‘a number of schools’ in Inverness, Nairn, Forres and Auldearn
Police have arrested a man after malicious emails - understood to be a firearms threat - were sent to multiple Highland and Moray schools.
News first broke on Friday morning of a large police response in Forres to reports of a possible firearms threat to schools in the Moray town.
Police have since confirmed that they had been made aware of a “malicious email” that was sent to schools in Forres, as well as “a number of schools” in Inverness, Nairn and Auldearn.
The force, which did not confirm if the malicious emails contained a firearms threat, added that a 19-year-old man had been arrested and that enquiries are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.20am on Friday, 28 February, 2025, officers were made aware of a malicious email sent to a number of schools in the Nairn, Auldearn, Forres and Inverness area.
"A 19-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.”
