Dava blaze tackled by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service

The main route south of Forres was closed last night due to wildfires.

Police Scotland prevented motorists from travelling onwards at Logie - reportedly from mid evening to the early hours of this morning - to allow Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) teams to tackle a blaze off the A940.

Six appliances attended to make the area safe.

A police spokesperson could not confirm the timings for the diversion but said the request came from the fire service.

A SFRS spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 7.20pm on Wednesday, July 16 to reports of a fire in the open affecting heather and trees along the A940 near Dava, Moray.

"Operations control mobilised six appliances, which included a water carrier, to make the area safe.

"Firefighters are no longer at the scene."
