Father of three named as Highlands avalanche victim
Police Scotland have named the first climber to be killed in an avalanche this winter in the Scottish peaks.
He is Max Norman, (41), a landscape architect from Ipswich.
Mr Norman was married to Charlotte and was father to three young children.
His family said in a statement: "Max was an amazing person and a hugely experienced mountaineer.
"He loved the Scottish Highlands and knew the area very well.
"We are utterly devastated by this tragedy and ask for space and time to comfort his young family and to mourn his loss.
"We are enormously grateful to the rescue services for all their efforts and for the kind support of the staff at the Torridon Youth Hostel."
Police were alerted on Friday after Mr Norman and his friend were reported overdue after undertaking climbs on Coireag Dubh Mor in the Torridon area.
A search and rescue was launched with assistance from Torridon Mountain Rescue Team and HM Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 100.
A police force spokesperson said: "Both of the men had been involved in an avalanche and on Saturday afternoon, one of the climbers was traced whilst summoning assistance for his companion.
"His companion was subsequently traced, but sadly he did not survive."
