Kingussie regeneration project digs in
Work on a £170,000 project to regenerate a popular public garden in Badenoch is under way.
The plans for Gynack Gardens in Kingussie include the addition of a wide piazza area and a link to the nearby primary school.
There will be additional seating and a peripheral track, with the aim being to promote greater community enjoyment within the garden.
It will also be a hub for the National Cycle Network Route 7 and Speyside Way long-distance footpath.
Kenny Deans, director of project leaders Kingussie Community Development Company, said: “We are genuinely delighted that work is under way. The schedule will see works completed by early December.”
The team is aiming to minimise disruption while the significant works which began on Monday are carried out. Mr Deans said: “There is no longer a through route meantime but the south end of the gardens remains open.
“After a year when the gardens have been a sad sight at times, it’s good to think a new chapter will begin with the significant changes that are coming.
“We are enjoying a fantastic level of support from the various Highland Council departments to support the work of contractors McGowans Environmental Engineering.”
The project was kickstarted with £55,806 from the Scottish Government’s Town Centre Fund and has also benefited from the Sustrans’ Places for Everyone Programme.
