The success story goes on at Aviemore’s magically reborn ice rink.

The recent Winter Chill Festival was a celebration of the community spirit that has supported Aviemore and Glenmore Community Trust with the project.

AGCT spokeswoman Kirsty Bruce said: “It was a great evening.

"We loved seeing the kids enjoy their Santa skate and taking on our Beat the Ice Hockey Goalie. The atmosphere at the ice hockey demonstration was fabulous and took me right back to Sunday night ice hockey games.

“We’d like to thank all the businesses and individuals who donated to our online winter auction which raised close to £6500.”

Donations on the evening from Winter Chill for candy floss, marshmallow toasting, the barbecue and other refreshments raised a further £900 to be shared between the rink and Badenoch and Strathspey Schools Snowsports Association.

Mrs Bruce said: “We’d like to give special thanks to Speysound Radio for the festive tunes and outside broadcast and also the Mountain Warehouse Team for the incredibly generous donation of goodies for a lucky dip.

“An extra mention is due to them for completing our ice teams’ winter clothing with supplying snow pants and merino wool base layers.

"It’s fantastic to have the support of both Mountain Warehouse and Ellis Brigham – donated North Face jackets – in kitting out our ice team in winter protective wear.

“These have all been branded by Grantown-based Zippity. The support for the ice rink is wonderful, everyday has felt like Christmas!”

The rink is open throughout the Christmas and New Year holidays except for today.
