Emergency services rushed to a stretch of the Spey at Grantown today after the alarm went up over people in trouble on the river.

The police, ambulance and fire service were all involved at one stage in the middle of the afternoon and reports were that campers staying on the bank area at Inverallan had got into difficulties in the water.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told the Strathy: “We got the call at 3.52pm and despatched boats from Inverness and Elgin.

“Local appliances were also sent from Aviemore and Grantown fire stations to assist.”

Police were also on the scene at one point.

The SFRS spokesperson said: “The Scottish Ambulance Service were dealing with the incident and no injuries have been reported.”

The fire service’s boats and appliances got their stop notices just past 4.15pm.

Police and ambulance services have not issued any released on the incident as yet and more details are awaited.
