Emergency services are in action on the Spey in Badenoch following an alarm call this morning.

The Coastguard’s search and rescue helicopter has been assisting above the river, with police, ambulance and fire services helping in the operation on the ground.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland told the Strathy: "Around 11.45am on Friday, 31 May, 2024, we were called to a report of concern for a woman in the River Spey, near to Aviemore.

"Emergency services are in attendance."

Fire crews called out from Aviemore were unable to get to the locus because of the narrow track leading from the B9152 and had to park their appliances among local cottages at the head of the road.

One officer told the Strathy: “We can’t risk going over the bridges on the route so several of us have walked down to the area. It’s some way from the road.

“We have no report yet come back to explain just what the problem is but it’s registered as a water recovery.”

The Strathy will update just as soon as details come in.
