Eleven further people have contracted Covid-19 across the NHS Highland area, new figures have revealed.

The region's number of cumulative cases rose from 747 to 758 when the latest daily update was published by the Scottish Government at 2pm.

The figures also revealed that more than 1000 new cases were reported across Scotland for the second day running. There were 1027 new positive tests in the past 24 hours.

A recent jump in the number of hospitalised virus patients also continued, with a further 58 people receiving treatment yesterday to take the total to 377.

Of those, 31 were in intensive care – up three from the day before.

And sadly another five people who contracted the virus have died.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new infections reported in NHS Eileanan Siar, NHS Shetland or NHS Orkney.

But NHS Grampian detected 40 new cases, to take its cumulative total to 2525.

And NHS Tayside added a further 42 positive tests, for a running tally of 2758.

Scotland has now detected 35,787 coronavirus infections since the beginning of the pandemic.
