An 84-year-old-old motorist walked away unharmed after his car careered down a 30-foot embankment on the A9 just north of Aviemore at the weekend.

His Skoda car ended up nose down amongst trees.

The two-car accident occurred just before the two-plus-one section of the Inverness-Perth road, by Kinveachy.

Firefighters from Grantown and Carrbridge attended the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "The collision involved a Skoda, driven by an 84-year-old man, and a Volvo driven by a 61-year-old man. Both cars were extensively damaged, but neither driver was injured in the accident."

The Skoda driver was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness as a precaution. Traffic was held up for a short time following the accident on Saturday at around 3.40pm.

The Police Scotland spokesman said that a report would be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal’s Office in Inverness.
