Elderly blind dog seeks a home
The Scottish SPCA's Highlands and Islands Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre is seeking a loving retirement home for an elderly blind dog who has had a lonely life.
Ten-year-old Labrador, Brooker, came into the care of Scotland's animal welfare charity in September. He was previously kept outdoors in a kennel and has had little interaction with people or other animals.
Brooker has now spent almost four months at the Scottish SPCA's Inverness-based centre but has attracted little interest from potential new owners.
Centre manager Elaine Floyd said, "Brooker has had a tough life and deserves the chance to experience what it's like to be part of a loving family.
"He's not had the home comforts that most dogs enjoy and the only human contact he appears to have had is at feeding time as he always expects you to have food in your hand when you reach out to him.
"Unfortunately, Brooker has severe cataracts in both eyes so he's almost completely blind, although we think he can make out shadows.
"It's heartbreaking to see Brooker here in kennels and being constantly overlooked. It must be very lonely for him spending every day on his own and in permanent darkness.
"He often bumps his face on the side of his kennel when he gets excited by the noise of the other dogs and we really think he needs to be in a nice, quiet home environment where he can relax.
"We'd love to find him a new owner who will give him all the love and attention he's missed out on over the years.
"Brooker is still an active lad who enjoys his walks and playing with squeaky toys. We think he'll blossom in a good home and we're sure he'll repay his owner with lots of unconditional love."
