Driver given jail warning at Inverness after being caught doing 109mph on A9 near Aviemore
A driver caught hitting 109mph on a 70mph section of the A9 near Aviemore was banned from driving for two years and ordered to resit his driving test when he appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted dangerous driving.
Stewart Shambare (62) of Hutton Place, Aberdeen, was also fined £640 by Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald, who heard that police on mobile patrol carrying out speed checks netted Shambare.
After hearing also that he had a previous record for similar driving behaviour Sheriff MacDonald told him: “If you carry on breaking the Road Traffic rules you will be going to jail.”
Fiscal depute Adelle Gray said Shambare was driving a Ford Fusion when the offence was committed.
She said background reports had been ordered on him for the Thursday court appearance because of the nature of the offence and his record.
Shambare’s solicitor Rory Gowans said: “This was not particularly clever with his record. He is a NHS worker and had made arrangements to get from Glasgow to employment in Gairloch.
“However this arrangement fell through and he borrowed a car to make the journey and he was caught at a speed which is completely unacceptable.
“He has a record for behaviour such as this which doesn’t do him any great favours, and his family are not happy with him at all.
“He is a hard working man and very remorseful.”
