A holidaymaker touring the Highlands used an Aviemore guest house as his base to see the sights.

But Inverness Sheriff Court was told that on March 22, earlier this year, 28 year old Ricky Brelsford, of Station Road, Woodhouse in Sheffield drank too much wine.

Fiscal depute Karen Poke said that he became agitated and said he wanted to go back to Sheffield.

"He went out to his car and staff tried to calm him down. Police were informed and he handed over his keys to the proprietors. He then went back to his room to await the arrival of the police," Ms Poke went on.

A breath test revealed Brelsford was over three times the drink drive limit.

His reading was 68mcgs of alcohol when the limit is 22mcgs.

He admitted being drunk in charge of his vehicle in Craig na Gower Avenue.

Defence solicitor Mary-Ellen Scobbie said: "He is upset with himself and feels he has let himself and his family down.

"But he is grateful to the staff of the guest house for their intervention."

Brelsford was fined £495 and banned from driving for nine months at Inverness Sheriff Court today.
