Danish laird buys Badenoch estate
The billionaire owner of Glenfeshie has confirmed that he has acquired the neighbouring 20,000-acre Gaick Estate.
The sale reputedly makes Danish clothing tycoon Anders Holch Povlsen the second largest landowner in the UK.
Speaking exclusively to the ‘Strathy’, Mr Povlsen pledged: "We will do our best. As expected, it was a very difficult deal to finalise until the very end."
He declined to say just how much he had paid for the estate.
The acquisition of Gaick increases the 43-year-old clothing magnate’s portfolio to some 150,000 acres and means that his land holdings overtake those of HRH Prince Charles, amongst others.
He already owns the Ben Loyal and Kinloch estates, and is now only behind Buccleuch Estates with an estimated 280,000 acres.
Mr Povlsen has hit the headlines as a result of his growing stake in Scotland, fuelling calls for greater land reforms concerned with foreign ownership.
He bought the Gaick Estate from French luxury goods heir Xavier-Louis Vuitton, who also recently disposed of his 5,000-acre Dalchully Estate by Laggan, which had a price tag of £4.25 million.
