Cromdale SWI is hoping to get a share of £30,000 cash that they have been shortlisted for by Spar Scotland.

The retailer is giving back to local charities and community groups and the good work carried out by the local SWI could benefit.

Cromdale SWI is in Area 2 up against groups including Arisaig Nursery, Burghead Coastal Rowing Club, Caol Regeneration Company, Conon Bridge Lunch Club and Kilmallie Shinty Club

The group organises and finances the village's Christmas party for children aged 7 and under and also the senior citizens high tea outing in a local hotel.

Marianne Stewart, Cromdale SWI secretary, said: "Normally we start fundraising in August by entering the pageant competition at the Strathspey Farmers Club Show, then follow this up with a coffee morning in September, a team quiz in October and finally a whist drive in November.

"But due to Covid-19 we have not been able to do any fundraising since November 2019.

"Although we weren't able to hold the children's Christmas Party in December 2020, the children still received their usual parcel from Santa thanks to the generosity of the Cromdale Hall committee who paid for the parcels.

"We were very grateful to them for that.

"We did apply for aid from Spar Scotland's last Community Cashback Campaign but didn't make the shortlist in this area so we are delighted to be on it this time round."

"Voting opened on Monday and already we are delighted with the numbers who have voted for us.

"However, there may be people who are not on Facebook and have not seen this or who are not aware how important this is for our group - the more votes we get, the more chance we have of getting a share of the cash giveaway."

Ms Stewart said it is easy to vote: "It is one vote per person, and supporters only have to fill in their name and email address.

"Some households may have several family members with email addresses and they could all vote for us."
