Couple's car bursts into flames on A9 by Kingussie
A couple's car burst in to flames on the A9 south of Kingussie on Wednesday afternoon while they were driving to a comedy show.
Tony (51) and Emma Smith (33) from Gordon Bush Estate in Brora, Sutherland were on their way to Glasgow to see comedian John Bishop at the SECC, when their Renault Espace estate car developed a fault and caught fire shortly after 3pm.
Mr Smith said: "There was a whining, grinding, howling noise just as we got to the sign for the layby so I said to Emma we'd better pull in.
“When I got out to have a look under the bonnet I could see smoke so I told Emma to get out. Then we saw flames falling on to the road from below the engine. We had to just walk away."
The couple decided not to let the incident completely ruin their day, and said they would get a train from Aviemore to Glasgow for the show.
