A flood of firefighters hit Kingussie today (Monday November 16) after a distress call went out over trapped Highland cattle.

After the heavy rains of the weekend the Spey had broken its banks in many areas, one of them by the newly-opened Ruthven Bridge.

Crews from both the local station and from Aviemore rushed to a drowned field on the southern edge of the Badenoch capital shortly before 11am only to find that the animals were not trapped after all.

Their pen was well under water but the gate had been left open and they were all away up on to a slightly higher and drier patch of grass.
