The power giant announced today (Friday, October 25) that it has opened its Warm Home Discount scheme for the winter and customers should be sure they apply today for the discount – clocks are going back on Sunday, and darker and colder evenings mean higher energy use for millions of customers.

SSE has made millions of pounds available to customers to help with their heating over the winter period.

Customers may be eligible for the discount if they or their partner are in receipt of certain benefits, suffer from a long-term illness, have a disability, or are on a low income.

Scottish Hydro customers who think they might be eligible should get in contact with Scottish Hydro "as soon as possible – for a full list of eligibility criteria please visit the SSE website: www.sse.co.uk/whdonline".

Last year payments were made to more than 140,000 customers in the broader group, and around 340,000 customers overall, and the company expects to help a similar number this winter.

Gareth Wood, Customer Services Director at SSE Energy Services said: “As the temperature starts to drop, many households will have turned on their heating, or will be thinking of doing so.

"However, for some, the cold weather will also bring about the worry of paying for their energy bills.

"The Warm Home Discount scheme gives a discount of £140 for customers who receive certain benefits or who are on a low income.

"We are urging customers who think they might be eligible for the discount to get in touch as soon as possible.”
