Community group bidding to take over Cairngorm Mountain wants to hear views
Aviemore and Glenmore Community Trust is urging those interested in reviving the fortunes of Cairngorm Mountain to attend a meeting on the future of the resort.
They are inviting local residents, business owners, users of Cairngorm ski area and the wider public to the event next Thursday in Aviemore to discuss the current situation on the hill and how the trust can move forward.
Since last December’s public meeting, AGCT said it has been in regular contact with HIE and working diligently behind the scenes.
AGCT director Mike Dearman said: “This session is being held as part of on-going consultation with the community about the future of the mountain.
"We believe that meaningful community involvement is absolutely essential to ensure the future of the Cairngorm Mountain business.
"It follows on from community engagement events in eight different local towns and villages last summer and a number of public meetings in the autumn.
"We believe it is crucial to listen to all constructive viewpoints and we will continue to remain open and transparent about our goals and our plans, as they develop."
The meeting will be held at the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore from 7.30pm until 9pm and will be led by AGCT.
James Gibbs, Highlands and Islands Enterprise Area Manager for Inner Moray Firth will be in attendance.
Following AGCT’s update the meeting will be opened up for a Q&A session.
The trust are keen to emphasise that the objective of this session to look forward and seek future options for the Cairngorm ski area.
All questions are welcomed and encouraged but as time is short the trust would welcome questions in advance.
An AGCT spokesperson said: "This assists with keeping the evening structured and avoiding repeatedly discussing the same points."
Questions can be submitted in advance to accounts@aviemoreglenmoretrust.org.uk
AGCT was created with the objective of acquiring the Cairngorm Estate including the ski resort currently owned by HIE.
The trust wants to build Cairngorm Mountain into a year-round sustainable business that will benefit local people, local communities, and visitors alike.
