A former corporal in the Army’s largest corps is making a meal of supporting veterans: breakfast.
Mark Strachan, late of the Royal Logistics Corps, tells us: “I’ve decided to open an Armed Forces breakfast club for veterans , service personnel and families.
“The aim is to give the support that is lacking in the region and concentrating on the veterans community of Strathspey and surrounding areas , involving military charities in the process.”
It will launch at the Pagoda in Grantown’s Seafield Avenue tomorrow (Friday) from 10am to noon and is intended to be a regular event, with breakfasts together on the third Friday of every month.
Mr Strachan is an Iraq veteran who lost the sight of his right eye after an explosion and was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result. He said: “This is an exciting opportunity to meets new friends and welcome our brothers and sisters back to the military tribe, while providing help and assistance where needed for the community.”
Mr Strachan is also behind ‘Planting Happiness’, a gardening initiative which goes a long way to raising funds for local and national civilian causes along with a range of military charities .
“There will be a number of charities involved with the breakfast club, to provide support and wellbeing advice for all service personnel and veterans and their families,” he explained.
“It’s very rare to get this all in one place for an event. I just met a veteran who has not been out for 10 years to meet anyone.
“He’s totally isolated and my goal is to combat such situations while raising funds to provide support and days out for any interested parties.”
