Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team were called after the alarm was raised for the overdue pair at around 2am earlier today.

Rescue team leader Willie Anderson said the two men had survived the freezing night on the hill and made their way off safe and well at about 6am.

"The winds at the top of Cairn Gorm reach 120mph earlier that day and it would have been a very cold night for them," he said.

"They got lost but had bivvy bags to shelter and keep warm. They managed to get off the hill themselves and were okay."
