Circus Vegas Inverness review

“How did he do that?” “How did she do that?”

I was lost for words on several occasions while my youngest couldn’t figure out the incredible displays of precision, athleticism and showmanship on display at Circus Vegas this afternoon.

Setting the scene with the fanfare from Also sprach Zarathustra was a bold move.

This incredible piece of music echoed throughout the big top while spotlights danced and the near-capacity crowd were transported from the Caledonian Stadium car park in Inverness to a realm of wonder and excitement where people on stage seemed to defy all the known laws of physics while showing absolutely no fear.

Mesmerising is one way to describe this family friendly spectacle which lasted around 90 minutes with an interval.

The breath-taking array of acts each demonstrated immense skill, precision and audacious courage.

There was no shortage of Las Vegas glamour with dancers and trapeze artists aplenty.

It also had its daredevils with its stunt riders in the Globe of Death looping at high speed inside a giant steel sphere, and there was a duo on the Wheel of Death which, with no safety net, produced a few heart-in-mouth moments, especially when the star went on top of the wheel rather than inside it.

No less daring were the trapeze artists who performed some unbelievable aerial acrobatics including Mayrelis spinning at top speed while practically at the highest point of the tent while hooked on by a hoop attached to her hair.

Other highlights included the enchanting hula hooper, the almost hypnotic juggler and the comedic clowns. This duo, far from mere fillers, engaged directly with the crowd, providing well-timed bursts of laughter that punctuated the high-flying acts.

A special mention also to the charismatic trio of acrobats who showed remarkable power and balance - before phenomenal dexterity while doing the limbo beneath a flaming bar.

Almost everyone involved showed formidable strength, executing complex routines that elicited audible gasps from the captivated audience.

This is a show with something for everyone, whether you're a thrill-seeker, a circus enthusiast, a theatre lover, or simply looking for a fun family outing. It serves as a powerful reminder of the profound artistry and pure entertainment that live performance can offer.

It was a resounding 10/10 performance with all involved collectively creating a truly immersive and magical experience.

Viva Las Vegas!

The show’s run in Inverness ends on Wednesday before heading to Stirling, Livingston, then Aberdeen.
