Young athletes hoping to benefit from the cash grants offered by the CAT Triathlon need to get a move on.

The applications need to be in by the date of this year’s event - Saturday September 13.

Applications are welcomed from promising youngsters aged 16 to 21 from within the Cairngorms National Park showing talent in any sport.

Organisers have donated proceeds from the event to a top notch selection of young athletes for the past seven years that the CAT has been held.

They have been able to use the extra cash for equipment, training or travel to events which can prove hard to afford otherwise.

Some of the grant recipients have since gone on to national and international success in their disciplines. The most recent to benefit were local cyclists Megan Riach and Elena Melton who have both made good progress since receiving grants last year.

As usual, this year’s entry list filled up fast with competitors from near and far keen to test their canoeing, biking and running ability in the outstanding setting of Loch Morlich and Glenmore.

Event organiser Tim Pott commented: "As well as running a fun and exciting event which has now become a popular feature of the local sports calendar, we are delighted to be able to offer promising young athletes from the area a bit of financial help towards their sporting ambitions, and we encourage anyone with commitment and talent to apply."

Grants of up to £1,000 will be available, and only applications received in full by the deadline will be accepted.

• Details of the quick and easy application procedure are on the CAT website at www.cairngormadventuretriathlon.org

The CAT is run entirely by volunteers. Anyone willing to give a few hours of their time to marshal in return for a fun day out, free drink and snack and the chance of a spot prize should contact info@cairngormadventuretriathlon.org.
