Carvers are coming to Carrbridge
Saturday will be a right carve-up again for Carrbridge - and the villagers will love every minute of it.
Some of the world’s finest wood carvers will be in Strathspey again to contend for the top honours at Carve Carrbridge.
“We have 21 registered carvers competing for the Claymore Trophy and an increased prize fund thanks to our prize sponsors, Highland Roboflail , STIHL Cairn Hotel, Dulnain Bridge Garage, Landmark Forest Adventure Park and Help management,” said spokesperson Margarete Paschke.
“Quadruple winner Lkhagvadorj Dorjsuren won't be joining us this year but we have returning champions, four new carvers, three female carvers and two septuagenarians.
“We are excited by the ever increasing quality of carving that we have watched in the commissions being delivered by our competitors throughout the year.”
All the carvings are sold in the grand auction and the team reckon this has resulted in over 350 carvings, created at Carve Carrbridge, which are in gardens and business premises around Scotland.
About 10 per cent of those are in Carrbridge and rumour has it that a few even escaped over the border.
The carvers receive the full auction price and as a little thank you to the village they create a smaller carving in 30 minutes and proceeds go to the community Funds.
Parking is free thanks to Seafield & Strathspey Estates and Landmark Forest Adventure Park, although the village invites donations which go the the The Woodland Trust to offset the carbon cost of the event.
