Carrbridge "Kidnapper" goes on!

Modern day adventurer Alan Rankin, of Carrbridge and co-traveller Willie Gibson are reliving the RL Stevenson classic Kidnapped and will resume their journey today (Saturday, August 6) after an enforced break.

They aim to complete their epic 800m charity adventure of sailing around and walking across Scotland.

Having notched up the gruelling 540m sailing leg from South Queensferry on The Forth around Orkney and then southwards passing Cape Wrath, Skye and the notorious Minch, the pair were forced to put the challenge on hold 130 miles into their 260 mile walk across Scotland.

Alan said: “The five-day sail and the six day crossing of Mull, Morvern, Glen Coe and Rannoch Moor really did take a great deal out of us. Now we are rested and ready to go again and looking forward to getting the job done.

He and Willie are set to complete the remaining 130 miles of the journey from Loch Rannoch to Strathyre, on through the Trossachs to Doune, Dunblane, Stirling, Hillfoots and back to South Queensferry and on to Edinburgh.

Willie Gibson, a veteran of over 20 mountain marathons and long distance running routes said: “We are starting from the exact spot we stopped at back in June. From there we have a big couple of days as we head over to Loch Lyon and from there on it’s a long stretch to Edinburgh where we hope to be by next Saturday (13).

The challenge will raise funds for three charities; Parkinson’s UK, Ocean Youth Trust Scotland and Stevenson Adventures.

Progress of the pairs’ epic challenge has been tracked by a satellite tracker and is available on www.kidnapped130.com
