Car smashes through front window of Aviemore shop
A car smashed through the front window of Waterstone’s bookshop in Grampian Road, Aviemore at about 10am today.
The driver, an elderly man from Boat of Garten, was not hurt and neither were the two staff on duty at the time. Police are in attendance and are investigating the incident.
An eyewitness said: "The driver was trying to park outside the shop and must have put his foot on the accelerator instead of the brake.
"It’s so lucky no one was behind the counter at the time - they would have been killed."
A passer-by, who also did not want to be named, said: "Clearly the car went quarter length into the bookshop as the wheel marks are there to prove it. The front window was smashed and the display area behind it badly damaged."
The vehicle put out the whole pane of glass at the front of the shop and pushed cupboards at the back of the window display on to the service counter.
The two staff serving at the time of the accident were unhurt. The shop has been closed for the day while the safety of the building’s structure is checked out and while the damage is repaired.
