Campaigners fly to CairnGorm

A demonstration is due to take place on CairnGorm this weekend in protest at the decline in the hen harrier population in the Highlands.

Activists argue that the bird of prey is being disproportionately persecuted.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, August 7, at 1pm, at the Base Station.

Protesters claim: “Of all birds of prey, the hen harrier is the most heavily persecuted in relation to population size in the UK”.

“The aim of Hen Harrier Day is to celebrate and to raise awareness of the plight of this magnificent raptor and find out how we can improve its fortunes here in the Scottish Highlands,” said campaigner Caroline Hunt.

There will be a number of guest speakers and a competition for the best placard.
