The referee for this year’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final has been confirmed as Innes Wood from Fort William.

He will oversee the blue riband event between Newtonmore and Kyles Athletic on Saturday September 14 at An Aird, Fort William.

The former Fort William player and manager has been refereeing shinty for over seven years. He took a brief break from refereeing to manage Fort William’s second team but since his return in 2008, he has steadily progressed and has been officiating at Grade One level for the past two years.

Ted McDonald, Camanachd Association Officials Director, said: “The Officials Committee believes his high standard of fitness and tight control of players during matches makes him an ideal candidate for taking charge of shinty’s most prestigious final and I wish him all the best.”

Mr Wood said: “I am delighted to be chosen to referee the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final; it is a great honour and I am very much looking forward to what should be a great match.”

Supporting Innes on the day will be David Mitchell as fourth official, Willie Cameron and George MacKay as goal judges and Alex MacVicar, Archie Ritchie, Calum Girvan and John MacGregor as linesmen.
