The Cairngorms is likely to be basking in hot weather just in time for the start of the long summer school holidays - for a change!

Towards the end of next week is likely to bring the warmest temperatures for the Highlands signalling an end to the current cooler spell.

Forecaster James Madden, for online Exacta Weather, told the ‘Strathy’: "Extensive high pressure is likely to build across the country and rapidly replace the unsettled and cooler scenario as we progress throughout the latter part of this weekend and into the following week.

"This is likely to bring another period of exceptionally hot weather across many parts for several days that should see temperatures in the mid-to-high 20s at the very least."

Extensive high pressure is likely to build in from the south of the country at the start of next week after a somewhat cooler and more unsettled theme towards the latter part of this week, in particular, in parts of the Highlands.

The high pressure will then gradually extend northwards across many parts of the country throughout this period.
