Cairngorms radio station goes round the clock
Speysound Radio have said that everything went perfectly with the switch over to 24/7 broadcasting at the weekend.
The Aviemore-based community radio station is now on air round the clock.
It is a first for the station in their history spanning more than two decades.
It’s been a busy time for Speysound which has also unveiled its new logo and been improving the quality of its internet stream.
Volunteers at the station said it has been a long road to getting to the point of broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"It is so exciting," said Shirley Bateman, one of Speysound's directors.
"We’ve been trying to do this for such a long time. Because the station is run entirely by volunteers and finding funding has become more difficult in recent years, it was just becoming harder and harder.
"But then local company, Speyside IT, stepped in and offered us a new computer system which will let us broadcast all the time. Until now, someone’s had to be in the studio for us to be on air and we’ve really been restricted by presenter availability."
To start with, there will be a schedule of various music programmes interspersed with current regulars.
Pete commented: "We’ll be adding to the schedule over the next few months. We’ve already got a country presenter in training, we’re making progress on getting a daily weekday breakfast show and we have a chart show lined up.
"I’m also currently working with the Learning Disabled who are interested in having their own daytime programme. We’d be delighted to hear from any other community groups who would like airtime – farmers, healthcare groups, vets, youth groups, Polish speakers, anyone really.
"That’s what being a community station is all about; radio for the community by the community."
