The Cairngorms National Park Authority is advertising for a new park board member to fill the vacancy left by a former convener.

Mr David Green has just stood down from the board after deciding against sitting for another term.

He was appointed to the original board by Scottish ministers in 2004 and was the convener for six years prior to Mr Duncan Bryden taking over in September last year.

The Scottish Government is now advertising for a new member to be appointed to the board which attracts pay of £200 per working day. Applications need to be made by December 13.

Paying tribute, Mr Bryden said: "David Green is a man of many parts, west coast crofter, snow plough driver, past leader of the Highland Council and most recently convener of the Cairngorms National Park Authority.

"A born raconteur, David can conjure humour out of virtually any situation, frequently does and almost always gets away with it."

Mr Green took over as park authority convener in September 2006 replacing Mr Andrew Thin, who left to chair the board of Scottish Natural Heritage.

The appointment will be for four years and the role will start on March 1, next year.
