Cairngorm Ski Club's snowsports equipment sale huge team effort
Cairngorm Ski Club has confirmed its ever-popular snowsports equipment sale will take place on Saturday November 11th.
The annual fundraising event sees the sports hall at Dalfaber Country Club in Aviemore overflow with pre-loved ski and snowboard gear.
John McFadden who coordinates the sale, said ‘The goods come in, are sold and sellers paid out all in one day - thanks to huge effort by our club members’.
"The sale is a key component of the ski club's fundraising strategy and a superb showcase of the community and teamwork that embodies the Cairngorm Ski Club.
"More than 100 ski club members help with the sale and the busy, vibrant atmosphere is what it is all about."
He continued: "The snowsports sale is re-use and recycle at its finest – and is a key factor in making one of the most expensive sports in the UK accessible to the communities of the national park and far beyond.
"Brands such as Patagonia and Alpkit are now fully embracing the movement to reuse and repair kit: the technology and finesse of modern day outdoor clothing and equipment must be fully utilised and we must once again get used to wearing and using kit until it is worn out.
"Visitors can pick up a bargain and sell kit they no longer need, all under one roof and in one day.
"The selection, range and quality of the equipment is superb.
"Children's kit, in particular, is often outgrown long before it's worn out. It is also an excellent alternative to platforms such as eBay and Facebook marketplace for selling pre-loved kit as there is no hassle with postage or items being purchased without having been seen."
Mr McFadden added: "This is the perfect afternoon to ensure skiers and snowboarders can pick up the kit they need and garages are not brimming with no longer used skis, snowboards and boots."
The event started in 1975 as a bric-a-brac sale with some skis included and has grown since then but still uses the same basic system introduced decades ago by Cairngorm Ski Club life member Alan Fisher.
The ski sale is synonymous with the start of the ski season and a key date for the snow loving communities of the strath.
All proceeds raised subsidise the club's core winter programme supporting the strath's young snowsports enthusiasts.
The sale will be staged between 3.30pm and 5.30pm.
