CairnGorm Mountain has switched back to full winter-mode following a heavy snowfall overnight.

The attraction has said that the slopes will remain open until at least until next Monday (May 2) and possibly beyond.

Janette Jansson, General Manager, Natural Retreats CairnGorm Mountain, said: "We are absolutely delighted to continue offering great snowsports at CairnGorm at the moment. It was a particularly late start to the season this year, but we are certainly making up for it now with plenty of snow still on the slopes.

"I think that this is the best time of the year to ski in Scotland, with better weather, softer snow and less congestion on the slopes. It looks like it’s time to put the mountain bikes back in the shed and head to the slopes for some end of season snowsports."

Spokesman Ross Coulter said that the slopes were looking in great condition.

He commented: "The snow plough was woken early from its hibernation this morning to be set to work clearing the snow off of the ski road as staff changed out of their summer uniforms and back into their salopettes.

"It has been snowing on and off for the last couple of days at the ski area, but a few inches have fallen on the upper slopes last night alone.

"Temperatures have dropped to -4C at present and forecast are indicating that it will continue to snow into this weekend.

"There has been some drifting across the Ski Area and the piste machines and groomers are already moving the new snow around the slopes so that skiers and boarders can make the most of the recent snowfall so late in the season.

"Although visibility is quite poor today, conditions are expected to clear up later on in the week giving snowsports enthusiasts the ideal end to the season.

"Although we are now approaching May, CairnGorm Mountain is still operating 6 out of the 11 lifts at the resort. The Freestyle Park is also in great shape at the moment in advance of the Ptarmigan Freestyle Jam scheduled for Saturday."

To celebrate this latest snowfall, CairnGorm Mountain is inviting their season pass holders bring a friend to the slopes with them for just £10 for a full day’s skiing.

Mr Coulter said: "As the majority of other Scottish ski areas are now closed for the season, CairnGorm will also be offering season pass holders at other ski resorts the opportunity to ski for £10, to celebrate current conditions."

CairnGorm Mountain has confirm that the slopes will remain open for snowsports every day until Monday ‘at the very least’, when bosses will then need to revaluate conditions.
