Business case ready for new £15m Aviemore hospital
Proposals for two new hospitals in the Highlands are to be submitted soon to the Scottish Government.
The plans for south and west Highland include a £1 million investment in community care services, as well as the new facilities.
A £15 million hospital in Aviemore will serve Badenoch and Strathspey while £28 million will be spent on service re-design affecting Lochalsh and south-west Ross, including the controversial new hospital in Broadford, which many blame for the downgrading of services in Portree.
At a NHS Highland board meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) directors will be asked to approve a joint outline business case for the two projects, to be submitted to health secretary Shona Robison, with the hope of completion by 2020.
The report for the proposal states: "The foundations of the re-design are around investing in staff, services and infrastructure that will help more people to be independent at home or as close to home as possible.
"In doing so it will facilitate less reliance in hospital and institutional care and provide greater choice for people at the end of their lives."
