Man has been fined for getting a Samurai sword out in public

A man who took a decorative Samurai sword out of a case at Farraline Park bus station in Inverness has been fined £100 at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Charles Brennan from Shotts in Lanarkshire was going to visit his girlfriend in Nairn to celebrate her birthday and had a lot of luggage with him when he got off a bus the court was told.

His solicitor Marc Dickson said Brennan had only gone into his suitcase to get something from his luggage and he removed the sword which was ‘as blunt as a butterknife’.

"What he accepts is he took it out to get access to other parts of his luggage. He took it out and put it to one side then put it back."

"He didn’t brandish it?" asked Sheriff Ian Abercrombie.

"No," replied Mr Dickson.

Twenty three year-old Brennan of Edinburgh Road, Shotts admitted on March 18, 2011 being in a public place without authority with an article which had a blade or was sharply pointed
