A bus driver who endangered his dozens of passengers when he decided to overtake a lorry on the Slochd summit has lost his job after he was banned from driving for a year at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Lewis Lomond of Calder Place, Falkirk appeared before Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald represented by his solicitor, Marc Dickson, and admitted driving dangerously on May 14 last year by overtaking in the face of oncoming traffic and causing a lorry to brake hard and mount the verge to avoid a collision.

Lomond was also fined £715.

Mr Dickson said: "The effects on him for this error of judgment have been cataclysmic. He has lost his career as driving a bus is pretty much all he knew."

Mr Dickson added that Lomond had a daughter in the North east of Scotland and he would not be able to see her as often as public transport is poor to get from Falkirk.

Sheriff Macdonald told Lomond: "This could have been catastrophic as you were driving a bus with passengers and chose to overtake a lorry kin what was incredibly dangerous driving.

"I take this very seriously." the Sheriff went on.
